As usual, volunteering is an annual activity that all members of HTI Group look forward to, a special occasion for us to help the community, to help the disadvantaged and unlucky in life, especially the highland children who still lack material conditions.
This year, we went to two difficult schools in Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province: Lung Vai school and Nam Hum school. This is an area where mainly ethnic minorities live, their lives are extremely difficult and they depend entirely on shifting cultivation. And this place is surrounded by mountains, the economy is poor, so the children hardly focus on their studies and there is a very high dropout rate. The way to school for both teachers and students is dirt and rocky that take hours to reach the school.
Although we have heard about the difficult road to get to the two schools, Nam Hum school and Lung Vai school. However, when we have to go directly to the place and witness with our own eyes the majestic mountains and forests, craggy cliffs, the rocky road covered with slippery moss, mud, make your clothes and shoes dirty, we should understand the difficulties and hardships of the students on the way to school.
The journey started early on Friday morning, the sky was still covered with fog and light rain. After that it stopped raining, but this weather will still make the road more difficult.
Nam Hum school is the farthest school in the schools of Can Nong Primary and Secondary School. This year’s school has 8 elementary school students and three teachers. The road here is half concrete, the other half is still a slippery stone road, both sides are high cliffs. Classrooms are still very poor, made of corrugated iron and no electricity; with only a few sets of desks and blackboards but students are still studying hard.
Lung Vai school is the school with the most difficult road of all, when not everyone is healthy enough to go to there. This year’s school currently has 18 primary students, 17 preschool children and 3 teachers. More than two hours of climbing, crossing the forest, the road is covered with slippery rocks, people who are not used to it will fall a lot. This is journey like the journey of overcoming ourselves of our team. Thinking of the highland children gives us more motivation to keep going.
After a journey of more than an hour to Nam Hum school and more than three hours to Lung Vai school, everyone’s joy broke out when we succeeded. Overcoming challenges, even more admiration for the teachers and students here.
Finally, the gifts were sent to the highland children. New clothes, backpacks, warm clothes, boots, sandals, and raincoats help children reduce difficulties on the way to school. These are meaningful gifts to motivate teachers and students to overcome difficulties to go to school for a brighter future to become good people, useful to society, to help the homeland and the country.
Sincere thanks for the enthusiastic support from local officials, people, and teachers who helped HTI Group go to Nam Hum and Lung Vai schools. Everyone’s welcome made us feel so warm in the severe weather.
